Halloween Sensory Bin

Art with straws!  I remember this project from grade school.  The end result is spooky trees.  With watercolors you paint a background, and while it is still wet, make a brown line for a tree.  While everything is still wet, use your straw to blow on the trees, giving you spooky trees.  I must admit my painting looked better in 2nd grade that this one did, but it was fun anyway.

Tessa has practiced taking care of "Baby Tessa" a lot.  She feeds her and then puts her to sleep in the swing (our nanny has a new baby if you don't remember... not us!)

Our microwave broke, and with a new one came these "corner protectors" - i.e. ball track!  Lots of different configurations were made and 100's of ball races were run.

This is ugly fish.  Another blogger asked the question "how you burn thru $20 in 10 minutes?"  Take your 2 year-old to a pottery place.  And she was right.  Tessa can play with this any time she wants, in hope that it falls and breaks.  No such luck yet.

Vacation - Greer

Last month we escaped the heat and headed to Greer, Arizona for a long weekend.  It was wonderful.  We stayed in a two-bedroom cabin with my parents, and it was so nice not having an agenda to follow for the day.  We spend time exploring the grounds and the surrounding forest.  Greer was at the center of the Wallow fire this past spring, and it was really sad to see entire mountainsides burned.  But the forest floor was alive with wild flowers - out of these ashes, beauty will rise.

Staycations and Vacations Part I

We've been traveling quite a bit this summer and I haven't blogged about any of it!

In July we took a short weekend trip to Tucson with My parent's and Scott's Mom.  We were all excited for the weekend until Tessa woke the morning of our departure with 105 fever (no joke, it was 105).  Call me a bad Mom, but we have hotel and CAVE reservations that were non-refundable, so we packed the Tylenol and Motrin and hit the road.  We hit up Mt Lemon first to enjoy some cooler weather.  It was an amazing 73 degrees at the top.  We hiked a little around the Butterfly Trail and enjoyed cookies and ice cream before heading down into Tucson.

We brought Tessa's mattress down with us and the closet was again big enough for her to have her own "room".  The following morning (still with high fever child) we went down to Kartchner Caverns.  No photos were allowed, but it was amazing inside.

And back to my 105 degree fever child.  I assumed it was a virus.  The grandparent's seemed worried.  She wasn't sick in any other way except she felt tired when the fever was high.  I kept saying on day 4 or 5 she would break out in a rash.  And what happened?  Day 5 her fever broke and the rash appeared, which meant she had Roseola.

Now she is fine.  The end (of part one)
